Today I tweeted “Today I am going to say something positive
to every single person I talk to. Too much negativity lately.” I've said it
before and I’ll say it again. I am far from perfect. Galaxies away even. But I
pride myself on the ability to be nice to people, to build people up, to smile
at cranky people. The world is gloomy sometimes, but gosh darn it I’m going to
smile!
This morning I found it really hard to smile. I pushed a
friend of mine into the online dating. I wanted her to do it with me, we were
having fun with it. Helped each other build profiles, looked at profiles together.
Helped each other with what to say. Then this total douchebag messages her to
comment on her weight?! Where do people get off? Do they have mother’s? Were
they never told if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at
all?? I've gotten responses like that too before. People judge you completely on
your appearance and it hurts. It hurts bad. I know I am smart, educated, and
hilarious as all hell, have a great job, am completely independent, emotional,
caring, giving, and an all-around good person. I’m also large and loud and I love me.
So give people a chance, get rid of negativity in your life.
Get to know someone you normally wouldn't volunteer, donate to a great cause
(so many amazing charities right here in Mcmurray!), be the change you want to
see in the world. Maybe it will rub off on someone who desperately needs it.
And the next time you are about to say something mean or hurtful or degrading
to someone think about how you want to be treated. How you would want someone
to treat your child, your spouse, your parents, your best friend. Maybe then
you will keep your big mouth shut. And if you are the recipient of the
negativity? Keep your head up sunshine, because you are awesome.
